Return Of Alfa Romeo US Sales Is Serious, Really

By Cornelius Nunev

An Alfa Romeo US return is going to occur, claims Fiat. They are really severe over it this time, just like they were severe about this back in the Clinton administration.

US dealing with 4C sports car

Fiat has been guaranteeing for some time that they are going to bring Alfa Romeo, Fiat's luxury brand that slots between the lower-end luxury brand Lancia and little more than rebadged Chryslers.

Alfa, essentially Italy's answer to BMW, has been gone from the U.S. for a long time but in the past couple of years, is proven, then un-confirmed, then re-confirmed for a stateside launch. First they said 2013, then 2014, then 2013 again.

The Star Phoenix reports that Fiat will start selling later this year. NBC News reports that Alfa Romeo U.S. sales will be started with the Alfa Romeo 4C, which is a sports vehicle.

Response very small

However, news of resumption of Alfa Romeo United States sales should come with a few grains of salt. First of all, not many people are going to get one, so it's sort of pointless. The 4C is going to be very costly. It's a halo car and is going for halo car costs, projected to go for $75,000 to $100,000, according to NBC News. If one were to run that through an auto loan rates calculator, those are payments few can afford.

The Star-Phoenix explained that the carbon fiber cabin means that only 2,500 will be produced annually.

Alfa has been gone from the States since 1995, and it did not sell a lot even when it was here. In 1986, it sold 8,201 vehicles, but that was the most it ever sold in a year. According to Car and Driver, it may never show up anyway considering promises never come through lately.

It seems like Alfa is more serious about returning now, though it has been making promises to return that have not happened since 2000. In 2008, they did sell a few 8C Competizione roadsters, but that is all they have done.

Huge deal in press

The press seems to be making a big deal over "Alfa Romeo United States," and some might wonder why that is. Ultimately, it's just another luxury brand; so what if it's Italian and has a "wop engine," as Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne put it? Hardly anyone bought them when they were sold here and they were notoriously unreliable.

The people who do purchase an Alfa will only be doing it because it is ridiculously beautiful. A concept car called the Gloria will be shown off at some auto shows later this year, according to Automobile Magazine, but it is expected to be really beautiful. If the 4C and 8C is any indicator, it will look really great.
