Available Hot Shot Trucking Firms Can Keep You Producing

By Essie Osborn

The products you manufacture need to get to the location your client specifies. If the product is a small package, a parcel delivery firm can be used. If that product is a large piece of equipment, a regular shipping company, with their 18 wheelers will do the task. If it is somewhere in between these, you may need to have a hot shot trucking company or freelancer do the delivery.

Looking at the lading pricing for commercial shippers, you see they like to make their money on full loads. Sometimes they will offer above per item pricing for one half to three quarter loads, but the drivers really do not like that. Shipping that one crate or one container that does not take a lot of room will be costly and it hardly seems worth it.

This type of operation began back in the 1970's on the oil fields. The drilling happened away from towns, on their own. These drivers were placed at the site on call and ready to make a run to town or other drilling rig. These tasks, whether taking some part to another rig or picking something up from town had a time sensitive nature to them. They had to be ready to go on a moments notice.

Looking into this kind of delivery system will help when you have certain parts or updated items that must be there quickly. This will be a fairly easy task as you can call one of these hot shot firms and schedule a pick up as soon as possible. They do not have to run on the same type of schedule and can react promptly.

Words such as hot shots, in this situation, does not mean that they are operating illegally. They have to have the same licenses and certifications that all truckers must have based on the size and configuration of their rigs. They simply like the idea of these smaller loads and their ability to be as creative as possible in scheduling multiple pick ups and destinations.

A very good reason to use these types of firms is that many websites exist that serves as open call boards for these loads. You, as a company needing a shipper, list your load and take bids for the shipment. You have control over who takes your load and can make specifications about refrigerated, flat bed or container trailer. This is way to get acquainted with the drivers that will do this so a better arrangement can be made for future work.

These smaller loads can and have been delivered by personnel within the production company, itself. This is a draw down of professionals and maintenance on the equipment, as well as licensing and inspections take time away from production. These smaller firms will take care of this for you and keep your mind on business.

Hot shot companies are the best choice for some of the smaller things you ship because they can handle these better than the larger companies can. They are more able to accommodate these and they can also give you better rates than those who have nationwide reputations. They will work with you a bit closer to enable special handling and your clients will appreciate that.
