Choosing And Installing A 300 Wide Tire Kit

By Jason Wright

As a motorcycle enthusiast, you too can customize your bike. Most bikes come with the regular wheels on the front and the back. However, the latest trend is to have larger tires on at least the back, and sometimes the front. You can install them yourself or have a mechanic do the work by ordering a 300 wide tire kit. These are packed with everything you need except the tools, wheels, and tires to make it happen.

There are a few components that are standard in every kit. The two biggest and most important parts are the swing arm and fender. Gear offsets and other parts are also included to get the wider setup to work with your standard bike. The tires and wheels are not included because you're going to want something that matches your bike rather than having a generic set. The fenders come as clean stainless steel which allows you to have it painted to your own specifications.

You can find your own parts. Some may take them off of other bikes, some will custom order them. You need to make sure you have everything you need before you take apart the bike or you'll end up having to wait on the missing parts. By purchasing a kit, you can be sure everything you need is included and matches the size you chose.

The two most popular sizes are 240 and 300. The 240 was the first size used and was taken off an old car. This was based on a bet that it couldn't be done. Thanks to its success, the idea of customizing bikes and back sets was born. It's a cool look and not that hard to accomplish.

You must order the metal wheel separately. Of course, you need to make sure they're the right size. In some cases, the same place you get the components from can order a custom wheel for you as well. Your best bet is to do some research and find one that matches the front or that you like in general. The same goes for the tires. These are both options that have too many variables to make it into a standard kit.

If you have the skills you can do it yourself. They come with instructions and pictures. With a little bit of mechanical skill and the right tools, it is not too hard to do it yourself. The gears and brakes are super important to get right. If you have trouble getting them just right, get a mechanic to help out.

Do not open ride without testing it first. There should be absolutely no wobble in the back tire. You should be able to change gears and apply the brakes with the right results. If any of these aren't right, fix it. If you can't fix it, hire a mechanic. Getting these wrong can result in a devastating crash so the importance here cannot be overstated.

Fat tires look great on just about any bike. If you install them yourself, make sure you use a kit and test it before opening it up to the road. There are two popular sizes, so make sure your wheels and tires match the size you choose.
